This is the exact spot in Boston at 521 Commercial Street in the North End where the enormous molasses storage tank owned by the United States Industrial Alcohol Company and operated by Purity Distilling Company stood. It exploded at about 12:40 pm on January 15, 1919 releasing approximately 2.3 million gallons of molasses. The site is now a recreational area of a baseball field and bocce courts with this historical marker.
