About Kate
I recently retired after forty joyful years teaching in the Bedford, New Hampshire school district where I learned daily from the curiosity, humor, and persistence of my students. I hold a BA from Wittenberg University, an M. Ed. from Antioch of New England and an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. I live in Weare, NH and am a founding member of the New Hampshire Book Festival.
I loved to keep spiral notebooks of stories, and read Beverly Cleary books over and over. The first book I remember really loving after Beverly Cleary as an older reader was Scott O'Dell's book, Island of the Blue Dolphins. I was mesmerized and awed by the courage, strength, and perseverance of Karana surviving in nature alone. How did she do it?

Welcome to my writing world! Surrounded by the photos that inspire and cheer me, this is where I take my Motivation Monday/Keep Typing Tuesday calls, my two writers' group monthly critique zoom , and where write those 250 words daily. I have a Low Bar that is accessible so that dopamine hits and I continue. It works!
This is Pine Point at Camp Kawanhee for Boys, the cabin where our parents lived as Directors of the camp, that my brothers and I now share with our families. I love to write here in the summers. I call the deck up top my "Tree house" and I love to read there! The original directors, brothers George and Raymond Frank, lived in this cabin on the point of beautiful Lake Webb with views of Tumbledown Mountain range and gorgeous nightly sunsets.
This was a Saturday dump run when my kids were little. It was always a fun outing!
